  • Text Books: On-line texts; favourite texts.
  • Introduction to Computer Networks: these lecture notes come from the 3rd year of a computer systems engineering program. Examples have been adjusted for JCU and some improvements applied before this release.
  • Introduction to Microprocessor Systems: these lecture notes were developed for the 2nd year of a computer systems engineering program (RMIT) and an electrical engineering degree program (ADFA), and were a reference at Sydney Uni. An MC68HC11 processor is used with coding at a C language and assembly language level. An overview of data acquisition and linear control is included.
  • UNIX: this document describes commands and utilities that are often used. See also my main UNIX material page.

• Teaching Notes from JCU Cairns:
  • These Teaching Notes from my time at JCU SIT Cairns include resources for tutors, suggestions for better running of workshops, etc.

• Honours @SIT Cairns:
  • This Honours Overview describes planning and induction, and also discusses how to best tune an undergraduate program to support honours.
  • Paper assessment: the Cairns SIT cp5090 guidelines give a good introduction to paper deconstruction (and construction);
  • A sample project proposal is available in LaTeX for use by honours students. The Makefile generates example output in ps and pdf form. Documentation for the teTeX distribution of LaTeX and related tools is available on-line at http://mirriwinni.cs.jcu.edu.au/doc_texmf with the latex-2e user manual available at Hypertext Help with LaTeX. There is also the Cambridge help on Squeezing Space in LaTeX.
  • As noted in The Chronicle of Higher Education, it is possible to reverse a recent trend of students away from reviewed material --- see Web-Loving Students Can Be Prodded to Cite Peer-Reviewed Works in Term Papers (February 6 2003) [local copy].

• Programming Notes: covers topics such as debugging reasoning, use of the ddd debugger and make tools, decoding complex C/C++ declarations, examples of iterative refinement, etc., available at the thoughtfully named programming_notes web page.
